Visajaani Salonen takes 2nd!

Al Ferreira takes 3rd!

Constructors - Race

BMW take 1st

Renault take 2nd

Williams take 3rd

Final Standings

Constructors

1. Red Bull (4th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

2. Ferrari (1st overall in HOF) NOT HAPPY WITH SECOND

3. BMW (8th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

4. Williams (3rd overall in HOF) NOT HAPPY WITH FOURTH

5. Force India (12th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

6. Toro Rosso (7th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

7. Renault (5th overall in HOF) NOT HAPPY WITH SEVENTH

8. McLaren (2nd overall in HOF) TERRIBLE SEASON!

9. Honda (10th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

10. Super Aguri (11th overall in HOF) GREAT SEASON!

11. Toyota (6th overall in HOF) TERRIBLE SEASON!

Drivers

20 – Dave Lisozzi

Terrible season only competing in 1 GP then getting DSQ’d in 9 of 10.

19 – Fabio DoCouto

A terrible result after finishing an impressive 8th overall in 2007. He finished strong with Renault in Brazil. Toyota maybe needs a new engine?

18 – Sam Poquiz

Too many DSQ had Sam disqualified from the season with only 1 GP left. A terrible performance after winning 2007 Rookie of the Year.

17 – Juuso Ahvenus

Does not have his fathers driving touch that’s for sure. He is only a rookie so maybe next season?

16 – Frank Halpin

Frank is the all time leader of DSQ’s. He almost got DSQ’d for the season luckily he put a car on the track in Brazil. I think he is spending too much time celebrating his Irish roots with beer before race. ;)

15 – Visajaani Salonen

Disappointing season overall. Just could not get the results.

14 – Harry Lam

Harry can’t be happy with this finish. Look for him to rebound next season.

13 – Jimmy Le

See 14. Same situation just many more DSQ’s. He was 2006 Rookie of the Year.

12 – Allan Wong

Fantastic rookie performance. I expect big things come next season.

11 – Vincent Kan

See 12. A solid Sebastian Vettel type performance.

10 – Jussi Ahvenus

2005 Champion and 2007 defending F1 Champion did not have it this season. I believe he spent too much time teaching his son how to handle the McLaren ;) Look for him to battle hard in 2009.

9 – Vesajoona Salonen

Vesajoona finished strong with a win in Brazil. Good season.

8 – Paul Lucas

2006 F1 Champion had a good season but everyone expected more. I think switching from his British citizenship to US may have brought him bad luck as Brits are much better at F1 than Americans. Also he excelled with the Ferrari and McLaren in past seasons so perhaps BMW needs a new engine as well.

7 – Jimmy Andreou

Quite possibly Jimmy’s best season since he finished 2nd overall in 2004. Performed very well in the Ferrari. 1 of 5 of the most reliable drivers this season with no DSQ’s at all.

6 – Al Ferreira

2005 Rookie of the Year. Al sits 4th overall all time in the F1 Hall of Fame. He is always a threat but has yet to bring home the ultimate prize.

5 – Mark Yeates

Like Al he is a very strong competitor. Would love to see these two on the same team. 2006 Mark finished 7th, 2007 Mark finished 6th, 2008 Mark finished 5th. Give him 4 more years ;)

4 – Silvio Taglieri

2004 F1 Champion and 2004 Rookie of the Year has always managed to finish in the top 5. He had the most Grand Prix Points but not enough Championship Points. He is very upset he didn’t crack the top 3 and even more disappointed Ferrari did not finish 1st in Constructors. :(

3 – Paul Saunders

Rookie of the Year! Season very reminiscent to Lewis Hamilton’s of 2007. He finished with 54 points which makes him the most successful rookie beating the previous mark of 46 championship points by a rookie in 2004.

2 – James Li

James Li had an incredible season. His best ever. Will he be able to top himself next season? He set the bar very high. It will be tough. Fantastic season!!!

1 – Antero Matikka

Congratulations to our new F1 Champion. Incredible consistency and drive to the championship. The second straight year a Finn wins the Championship. Antero is the man to beat in 2009 and it will be a pleasure to beat him ;) Antero, please submit your victory speech by January 1st, 2009.

Assuming the top 10 drivers from this season return for 2009 these are the projected teams according to the rules:

Antero Matikka

Vincent Kan

This should be a great team.

James Li

Jussi Ahvenus

Another great team.

Paul Saunders

Paul Lucas

Fantastic team. Will be dangerous.

Silvio Taglieri

Jimmy Andreou

Together again.

Mark Yeates

Al Ferreira

Wow! Should be another dangerous connection.

Hope to see you all next season! It was an incredible race not only in real life F1 but also in our small little fantasy league. Have a safe holiday season and happy new year. See you all soon! Expect an email a few weeks before the 2009 season to get things rolling again. Take care everyone! Please stay safe.

Our current 2008 F1 rookie leader Paul Saunders came up with a great idea of adding photos to the site taken from us, the participants.

It makes sense since I realize over the years that some of you are lucky enough to attend every F1 race and others lucky enough to at least attend 1 to 5 a year. So if you have photos from the past 5 years (when our F1 fantasy league started) then send them over and I’ll post them.

On the main page, if you see a camera next to a GP that means photos are available to view from one of us that were actually there.

P.S. Don’t be camera shy with the pit girls either. ;) If you’re at the event with the wife or girlfriend find a way to distract them…hahaha

Juuso will join Paul Saunders on team Force India for an all rookie team.

This will be our first Father+Son combo in our 5 year history. Can son topple father? lol

Speaking of…here's an article of all the Father+Son combos in F1 history:

Welcome to the 2008 Formula 1 Season.

Our current Champion is Jussi Ahvenus (2 time Champion)…He will be the driver to beat…

The teams are set and we’re ready to roll. Teams are put together according to the rules. We have some interesting match-ups this year including Paul Lucas moving to BMW and Jussi Ahvenus taking over Paul’s place at McLaren.

Please welcome 1 new rookie, Paul Saunders who will be racing for new F1 team Force India! Unless anyone else joins from now till the last GP he will be shooting for rookie of the year on his own.

Paul Lucas has dropped his Union Jack and will be racing under his new USA citizenship. Congrats Paul!

I speak for all of us when I say welcome back Jimmy Le!!! After his horrendous motorbike accident last year that kept him hospitalized for months he is back with us and ready to go. Thank you Harry Lam for all the updates on Jimmy’s health. Here’s hoping we all have a safe and healthy 2008!
